168Amax (view profile) Posted 10:26 pm, 04/09/2022 any thing that brings them in close proimity with each other like a corn pile creepiness transmission, Think of the ban as social distanceing ------ Gotcha, that makes some sense as to why banning baiting is involved.
Still seems like overpopulation of deer too, same idea as the "gathering at the water cooler" theory for corn piles.
I say open season.

JustKnow (view profile) | Posted 10:23 pm, 04/09/2022 | Isn't CWD basically overpopulation response? Why would "baiting" be ended? Just doesn't make much sense.

NO it is the DEER version of MAD COW disease and is spread through urine and saliva and the prions that cause it can live for a very long time in the soil. They are so tough that even extreme cold and fire doesn't kill them. This is very very bad there is no treatment at all and is 100 percent deadly to infected animals.

If you read the CWD response plan they are going to end baiting and feeding deer and require all deer killed be tested.

I would post the link but Jason's web site wont allow it for some reason
RALEIGH, N.C. (March 31, 2022) Officials with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission announced today that a sample collected from a hunter-harvested, white-tailed deer in Yadkin County has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). This is the first case of CWD detected in North Carolina's deer herd and was confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa. The deer was harvested in northern Yadkin County in December 2021.
