I agree with the op that soldiers shouldn't have to pay for meals while on their AT.....i dont believe this actually happened though. I spent some time in reserves before switching to active duty and I.didn't have to pay for any meals.during my AT. You get fed 3 times a day whether it be mre's, food trucked to the field or dfac.

I personally ate MRE's all through Basic Training and 15 months in Iraq daily. I never had a problem with them. It comes down to one simple thing, if you are hungry you will eat. I hate it for this Soldier because they would never make it down range in a warzone where MRE's is all you have at times. Suck it up, you signed up for it..... go get it!!!

I bought food from the food trucks @ Ft Bragg during LBJ years. I was always hungry after getting those daily routines of exercise. Eat 3 squares in the mess hall daily also that was provided.Army did not provide liquor or bier.

Mre's are absolute misery on the digestive tract.... The most popular rumors were that they induced constipation so the nasty disintegrating gum was laced with laxative properties to counter the effects of the food. The truth is there is no need for laxative gum because the mre food itself induces stomach cramps and projectile bowel-exploding diarrhea on a scale that would render laxative gum useless. If turns out it's just regular gum as far as I know except I can't figure out why it disintegrates unless it's just super crappy gum

I was on the same Orders she did not have to pay for food. It has nothing to do with the army being broke know one told her that. The way it works is they give you 5 dollars a day for meals then they take 3 back

Soldiers buy their own food because they dont like the food but food is provided!!! That's the only time I Paid for food. It Was by choice not necessity.

I take it the person in question was on AT (Annual Training). Meals are provided< its called a MRE. Most Soldiers buy their own food because they dont like the food but food is provided!!!

It took longer than I thought before someone blamed him, considering this was/has been a practice well before he came in to office.
