Have you all call your House rep and let him know how you feel about this bill and how you expect him to vote. You need put him some heat on him and get all you friends and family to do the same let him know that raising the gas tax is not ok.
Here is the link to Wilkes Rep. in the NC house.

decsurvey, your last post is hysterical. Saying NC has better roads than SC is a stretch of an overactive imagination!
Our infrastructure is out-dated, crumbling, pothole riddled mess! That is unless you live in the Triangle area where there never seems to be a shortage of road construction or repair.
Any given highway elsewhere in this state is a nightmare; trust me, I travel enough of them to know first-hand. The proposed legislation is nothing more than a smoke screen where the powers that be are in Raleigh are hoping to gouge the working man and woman even more. I hope anyone that voted for these clowns is happy, you put them in office, I didn't.

Wow. It is an update to an outdated minimum amount.
It's either pay to keep the roads up or cut funding to new roads and maintenance to existing.
You can either have average of above average roads OR you ride on pot holes and rumble strips like Soutb Carilina.
You can have one or the other. But not both.

NC tax is 37.8 cents for each gallon of gas you buy, and there's another 18.4 cents for federal, which means we pay a total of 56.2 cents (62.2 for diesel).
With gas being around $2.10 right now, we're paying a 26.76% sales tax on gas. That's the highest in NC history.
With the new proposed plan, if gas goes back up to $4 like it did in the Bush era, NC gas tax will be a ridiculous 57.1.

"Not everyone is on board for this change, even though it would lower the gas tax from 37.5 to 35 cents in July."
The above quote is exactly how politicians manipulate the uneducated. The gas tax should drop to less than 25 cents a gallon in July if the republicans leave everything alone.

The only hope for this State is a better educated population that will know republicans say one thing and do another. A 26 Billiion dollar State budget and instead of cutting waste they want to create more, knowing we'll be dumb enough to pay for it.

There would be plenty of money in the Highway Trust Fund if those "Effin" politicians didn't rob it for other projects which don't have a thing to do with maintaining the roads, bridges, etc.

Senate leader Phil Berger's office is highlighting a range of support for the gas tax bill making its way to the Senate floor on Wednesday.
The plan would cut the tax on March 1, but set a floor that analysts say in a consensus forecast would generate an additional $1.2 billion in gas tax revenue for the state. In other words, it represents an increase in taxes in the long run.
Two other groups the conservative Americans For Prosperity and the liberal Progress N.C. Action had both criticized the plan as an unneeded tax hike.

| I'm the last person to support any tax increase. This bill is more about stabilizing the cash flow to our state highway department rather than continuing with the current funding which causes extreme fluctuations in tax revenue. It's very difficult to plan a project that would take years to design and complete when the cash flows varies so much.
| No its not read the article again it raises the minimum which means when gas goes back up so will the gas tax and we will still have the fluctuations which will cost us more.
