I don't think I've ever seen a confederate flag tag on the car of anyone with a degree of four years or more.
Let the symbol that's been adopted by racists and ignorant fools die a graceful death. Take it down

I feel a bit ambivalent about the subject. For example, I have swastika images in my house, but realize that many folks find it antisemenic, so I do not think to hang one outside my house or have it on my license plate. Symbols are like that. Folks borrow an image and use it as a symbol of hate and racism. Then it becomes that to lots of folks. It would be unkind of me to flaunt the symbol, so I don't. You just have to recognize that your symbol was hijacked and not go all goofy trying to pretend it wasn't.

I don't remember seeing a lot of confederate flags in Wilkes as I was growing up. I remember seeing them in gift shops In South Carolina, along with merchandise with pictures of the flag on them.
None of my family, or friends ever displayed one, that I remember.

Is white southern identity itself something that needs to be abandoned or condemned?
Guys with rebel flags flying from their trucks remind be of stoners shouting 420.
Sometimes we shoot our causes in the foot.

It's reasonable now to wonder if the confederate flag is pure racist imagery, but it's widespread cultural use would suggest it is more complicated than that.. It raises a bigger question. Is white southern identity itself something that needs to be abandoned or condemned? The proud cultural history of the south embraces everything from jack Daniels & country music. The white American south has kept some of its most pestilential prejudices intact since the civil war. But it is not racist to drink bourbon, listen to Texas outlaw music & it may not be racist to display a Flag, in the end it is just a piece of cloth. If a person is flying the confederate flag with racist intentions in mind, of course that is wrong, but if someone wants to display the flag perhaps for a source of history, ect. I don't find anything offensive about it. It's all about personal intentions. No further courses needed, for ones personal opinion ;)

i don't think any flag looks racist. i do think they are used symbolically for various causes though. the Don't Tread on Me flag comes to mind right away. i think we all know what it looks like just by reading the words

1goddess (view profile) | Posted 3:04 pm, 06/23/2015 | it's odd, that almost 620,000 men died in the Civil War, yet that didn't really change the face of racism... now 9 folks sitting in church..changed the minds of multimillion and billion dollar businesses....
but it will take much more than that...to change the hearts and minds of the folks behind those businesses |
It's not about changing minds as far as the businesses are concerned. It's just about the bottom line.

All have taken Confederate Flags off the shelves.
Virginia and NC are looking to take it off the license plates.
Mississippi is looking to change their state flag
S.C. is looking to take down their memorial flag.
and now the biggest Confederate flag maker will no longer be making them.

I haven't agreed with Gov. McCrory on much, but good for him for trying to get this rag off our state's license plates. I appreciate his efforts, even if I differ from him on most issues.
