I tried the Highlands Black Mocha Stout. I didn't care for it, at all.

I like the creaminess, lots going on with that beer and I like that slow kick. Guess I'll take my growler and try the S'mores deal.

Btw Jason, what dress size do you wear so I can get your upcoming birthday present to you in the correct size.
Probably about a 6. And just so you know, blue brings out my eyes
My birthday isn't until August, though.

Opinions vary, of course, but since I've been drinking the darker stouts, all of the Sam Adams beers have been too thin and watery for my taste. My favorites are almost black in color.
Afficionados, you might want to consider trying Dragon's Milk stout, or maybe Narwhal or Warlock stout. Those are bourbon-aged beers, and a lot drier than the dessert beers that Glitter is talking about.

GoWilkes (view profile) Posted 8:40 pm, 02/23/2017 Redfly, to be honest the S'mores beer is pretty sweet, but as a dessert it's pretty good. You smell the graham cracker, but the flavor is mainly just coffee and chocolate, so it finishes well. You should stop by Lowes and ask for a free sample before the keg is empty. I will have to try it then.. Now you are talking when we get in the Samuel Adams style craft.

I like crime brle as a desert. But I don't want to drink it, even if you can get it to 45 proof.

Glitter, I wanted to like the Samuel Smith's a lot more than I actually did. It was WAY too creamy for my taste! If you like that then you might like nitro stouts Sam Adams has a nitro in a can that reminded me of the Samuel Smith's, but not quite as sweet.

GoWilkes (view profile) Posted 8:35 pm, 02/23/2017 You mean you do MOD work drunk
Nah, seriously, I might drink 1-2 beers a week, usually when I'm lucky enough to be watching a late-night horror movie before bed. I haven't really had any free time for the last several months, though, I've been buckling down trying to finish up the new release (that I've been working on for over a year). I can definitely see how it COULD HELP clam the nerves

I am so hooked. I think they use the same recipe as the Chocolate Shock Tops and I can't find those this year.
The Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout is my go to but these Blue Moons are just a tiny bit more cost effective.

Oh, and since I'm making some (way past due) updates...
Those of you that like dark porters, AMB finally has their porter back out! I haven't seen it on store shelves yet, but you can get it at the brewery, and Dooley's (on Main Street Wilkesboro) has some on hand. It's not the cheapest porter I've ever bought, but it's definitely one of the richest!

The last time I saw those was at Lowes on 421. They had a case with 3 or 4 other flavors, but if you ask they'll happily open it up and let you make a mix-pack.
I liked those, too
If you get a chance, you should try the Saranac S'mores Porter. Lowes has it on tap right now, but I don't know how long it will last. It's definitely a sweeter dessert beer, along the same lines as the Duclaw's Sweet Baby Jesus, but I like it.

If anyone sees any Blue Moon Cappuccino Oatmeal Stouts, let me know. They're seasonal, hard to find and sell out quickly.

hangsleft (view profile) | Posted 3:01 pm, 12/13/2016 | If your idea of a good tasting beer is Coors light..... you might be a redneck. |
Coors Light is perfect for all day drinking - start around 9 am and call it a day about 12-13 hours later, or push on til the next day. I believe that's what Wade Boggs drank when he drank over 130 beers in a day.
