Cracking down on speed

I don't normally speed, however my current car's speedometer works when it wants too. Hopefully I can get it fixed in the next few weeks, been trying to save money to repair it. It does worry me though.

I rode down to Tilley HD today. 421 to 77 to Statesville. As a experiment I did exactly the posted speed limit. lost count of the number of vehicles that passed me before I got to 77. On 77 it was like I wasn't moving. people flying by. On the way home I said screw it and went with the flow of traffic.

I keep my electric bicycle right at 20.99 mph in 20 zone. I also pretend to pedal when I see the waw.

Looks like somebody would have stopped & threw a bag of ice on him/her anyway. Just no respect.

Just be happy you don't live and drive in China. You could end up looking like roadkill like this guy.

TL DYKE wrote me the one & only speeding ticket i've had in 1977. He was the new LEO in district. Speed was 66 in 55 zone. There was no way talking him out of it. Went to court house to pay it off & seen court docket. Dyke had 6-7 cases with speeding on it,guess what? All of them were 66 in a 55 zone. I paid mine off & went to da house.

NCDOT: Speed limit campaign was misinterpreted

If you drive one or two miles over the speed limit, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said don't worry, you will not be ticketed.

Earlier this week a news release announced the annual "Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine" campaign. That release stated "many Americans believe they won't be targeted if they drive within a 'buffer zone' above the posted speed limit. Law enforcement will be targeting and ticketing speeding drivers at all times."

Many people took that to mean drivers would now be ticketed for driving just one mile an hour over the limit. But NCDOT spokesman Jonathan Bandy, who put out the release, said that's not true.

"They should expect business as usual except they're going to see more officers out and about enforcing the law," Bandy said.

A new statement from the NCDOT to clarify the original statement said the Highway Patrol does not intend to change tactics when it comes to enforcing speed limits. It also said earlier reports that drivers would be ticketed for going one or two miles over the speed limit "were based on a misinterpretation of the initiative."

"We can stop you for any violation of the speed limit law," Trooper T.L. Van Dyke said. "But the dangers increase the faster you go."

Bandy said while you still might not get a ticket for driving just one or two miles an hour over the speed limit, it is breaking the law. The campaign runs through Sunday, April 3.

It's a holiday week, they typically crack down one holiday week a year.

Just drive under the speed limit the next 10 days :)

Imagine taking 77n from Elkin to Fancy Gap, running speed limit of 70mph traffic would be backed up to Statesville, not counting all the rear end collisions & road rage. LMAO.

For that outburst of insubordination you will Google speed vs velocity and have your lab report ready by morning.

Springtime123 I am Professor Crypt. You are describing a 3rd grader's understanding of doppler shift. My point had to do with what is being measured not how.

I doubt the average person on here has any understanding of Doppler shift at all. My point is it don't make any difference what is being measured. If the radar give a reading over the norm, you get a ticket.

I do, however, see where you are coming from. You are saying that speed and velocity are not the same thing. It is true if you were to do the math for both you might get a different answer. However, in this case it is irrelevant. Whatever the radar measures is what is used to determine your guilt or innocents.

And yes it's true that radar measures velocity not speed. Speed is a scalar quantity and direction of travel is not considered. With the doppler shift deceased by the vectorial addition of the axis of the radar antenna and the vehicle's direction of travel the ****s are always traveling slightly faster than indicated.

NO. Doppler radar determines speed by by the difference in frequency of the signal being sent to the frequency received. The adjustment of the CPU of the radar unit will determine the accuracy. However, lazer units are becoming more and more popular with police. The lazer units are even more accurate.
