If the bonds are so good, why not double the face amount? Then the politicos can really go on a spree.

And for those that think we can run the government debt free...Why have we, as a nation, only been able to accomplish it one time under Andrew Jackson?

"The problem isn't the projects listed, it's the fact that there's no guarantee that the money will actually be used for any of those projects! They can trick us in to voting in favor of it, then use the money for pretty much whatever they want."

They tricked you into voting for them also. Reallocation is a bad thing? How about its the common sense thing to do. So Project A cost 10 million but only uses 8M, shouldn't we want our representatives to have the flexibility to shift the money to other areas. I don't trust them either but its a political scare tactic that claiming they are going to de-fund projects as they see fit. More importantly most of those that fall for this I would not even trust to be able to understand the language in the bill.

It is called spending tomorrow's (hoped for) earnings today. Tomorrow's earnings cannot be spent tomorrow because they are already spent today. That is how the National debt has ballooned to 19 Trillion dollars.

I'm curious if any of the people who want to vote no on the bond - have borrowed money to buy a house or a car?

Can anyone name a project on the list they are opposed to? My guess is you are against just for the sake of being against or anti government.

I do think its funny however. This bond is a good example on how we keep thinking that Republican leadership is different than Democratic when there is absolutely no difference.
I think that smalltownman made an excellent point earlier, when he showed this quote from the report:

There's also a section of the bill titled "reallocation" which enables legislators to change the bond money allocations after the bond is passed. Such a provision means that voters have no guarantee that what they think they're voting on is what the funding will actually be used for.

The problem isn't the projects listed, it's the fact that there's no guarantee that the money will actually be used for any of those projects! They can trick us in to voting in favor of it, then use the money for pretty much whatever they want.

I vote against all bond issues... no matter how much lipstick the politicians have smeared on it.

Maybe they will make all of Yadkin County a park. Its not beneficial to the rest of us anyways.

Where do you see a "New Yadkin Park"?

Repaying the bonds is one thing. During that period, spending will be necessary for maintenance of the things that the bond money built. So for those two reasons, money to build without debt will be very scarce.
I do not say that I am opposed to some of the proposed projects. But I am very strongly opposed to selling the bond idea by keeping many of the facts secret.
The new Yadkin County park- have you used it? Do you know where it is? Has anyone said what the annual maintenance costs will be? You probably would mess your pants if you knew. That comes from the taxes you pay.

Funny how the party of fiscal responsibility supports borrowing money when they are in power. As more and more posters are observing, there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats. They say different things but results are the same more burdens on a shrinking middle class.

Government budgets are a lot like a shell game.

I will be voting NO. Just another way to fleece the voters, especially the ones who do not pay attention, which I would guess is 90% of the voters. You know, if a politician says it is great, they vote for it, especially if they say they are working for the benefit of CHILDREN, as it is the most recognized key word when they are attempting to sell falsehood through emotional content.

The opposition is brewing a large pot of tea, which is not unexpected. I'd hazard a guess that folks opposed to the bond issue would be opposed to any method of funding which would cause taxes to remain at the current level into the future citing the burden that will be placed on future generations. The projects being discussed in the bill will be used by those future generations, why shouldn't they pay for them? There are some disturbing clauses in the bond such as the reallocation language, but that too is expected from the ridiculous bunch in Raleigh.

Yes, I read the article. It is a guest opinion of what might happen. Not based completely on facts. Based more on feelings.

I have no problem with reallocation. We elect people to make decisions for us in a democracy. This includes how and when to spend our money.

This is a great opportunity for development and expansion of infrastructure and schools, without increasing taxes. No reason why anyone would vote no.
