I recommend you remove the battery and don't reinstall it until you get a replacement. Run the laptop of the AC with out the battery installed

first I would say, reset the cmos battery. Your bios may be stuck do to a fail safe protection to protect the system from heat damage.

It also sounds as if the cpu needs to be re greased with thermal paste. After a few years the paste will harden and cause a non boot situation. If you decide to re grease the cpu I would say replace the cpu fan as well

If it's getting to hot, you may have damaged the CPU that's on the motherboard. You can try to get you a can of compressed air and blow out all the vents and see if that will help any, but IMO the CPU has been damaged and you'll need a new motherboard.

I have a Toshiba that is about four years old. The battery hasn't held a charge for more than a few minutes for a couple of years. I don't really care about that, I just keep it plugged in. When the laptop is powered on there are four green lights on the front that light up and sometimes one is orange...I think that was is the battery. Sometimes the laptop will overheat and just cut off. After a few minutes it will power back on if I hit the power button..this doesn't happen a lot because I can usually tell if it is getting too hot and will lift it up so it gets more air. The other night I decided to try to enlarge the print on the computer so I can see it better. My vision is temporarily bad because of chemotherapy. I went into the display option and enlarged things to 125%. That enlarged all the icons but didn't really help with print in emails and Gowilkes. I was going to change it back to normal, but before I could I closed the laptop without powering off and went to take a shower. When I came back it would not come on. Two of the green lights were lit. I hit the power button and three green lights came on, but nothing happened. Sometimes I could hear the fan running but still see black screen. I tried taking battery out and unplugging and holding power button down for two minutes. Put battery back in and plugged in and still wouldn't do anything. I tried this several times with several variations...battery out plugged in...etc.

Finally after a few hours I tried one more time and it suddenly lit up with four or five lights (sorry can't remember ) and powered on. I thought maybe it had been really overheated and that was the problem all along and waiting a few hours let it cool down. It worked as normal and then I powered it off and went to bed. I did not reduce the display size...was too excited to have it working and figured I'd do it today. When I tried to cut it on today it did the same thing. Right now it has three lights lit up. I can hear no noise. I tried last night hooking it up with a VGA cord to my Tv but without being able to go into the computer and change to projector that didn't work. I don't have a monitor to hook it to. Any ideas on what is going on and why it would have came back on temporarily last night? Any suggestions on how to get it to power or if it is powering on and I just can't tell to get the screen to come on? I think it is powering on because I can hear it at some points running. Also, I think those three green lights and no fourth is something to do with it. When I push the power button that fourth light blinks for a millisecond and then nothing. Last night when it finally came on that light came on and stayed on. I know little to nothing about computers so I really am just trying to describe what I see. I think the thing obviously has hope or it wouldn't have worked last night. If I can get it to come back on I am going to back up my photos and calibre so that if it tears up again I will be good. Thank you for any help or advice.
