Alleghany and Wilkes Central are both great teams. The main difference I see in the two is that Alleghany plays unselfish basketball. I don't know why there has to be so much negativity. I am not going to point out anyone on here in a negative light, as I think we all saw the game and saw the sportsmanship quality of both teams. I will say that Alleghany's boys not only are amazing basketball players, they are a group of outstanding young men, backed by some wonderful coaches. I would like to add that L. Church for Wilkes Central is a great player and displays great sportsmanship and character on the court.

I drove to Sparta last night hoping to see the best two teams in the league go at it. What I saw was a bit more one sided than I expected but still entertaining. Then to log on and see this post this morning I am simply amazed. My take on the game was this. A talented but young and way too emotional Central team did not respond well to what Alleghany brings to every game it seems. They are well coached, disciplined, poised, and obviously put a very high priority on the defensive end of the floor. I saw another post where someone made reference to catching Wilkes Central on a cold shooting night. Alleghany seems to catch most everyone on a cold shooting night, and at some point the rest of us need to figure out that this is not an accident. The cold shooting nights are a result of the passion that teams defends with. This is not a new development they have been doing it for several years now and no doubt has had a lot to do with putting their program in the position to contend for the title every year for the last several years. Instead of attacking them on here and making statements that are not true, we need to be figuring out their formula for success and trying to duplicate it. Not a Alleghany fan and never have been, but I will say that my respect for coach Mcknight and his program continues to grow.

I have been around for several seasons and watched lots of sports in the local high schools. Wilkes Central has overall had the worst response to losing of anybody I have seen. It is a toss up for bad sportsmanship between Wilkes Central and North Wilkes. In the past few years I have noticed West Wilkes turning into a bunch of crybabies also. I blame most of it on the parents and grandparents. These young folks are the product of their environment.

I am an Eagles fan and watched the game tonight. It was chippy at times but nothing to get worked up over. Both student sections did a great job supporting their team. Alleghany is a decent team and caught Central on a night they were not shooting the ball well and all the credit goes to them. There is more talent on Central but Alleghany is much more fundamental and plays within themselves. Both teams have a shot to win conference. I don't feel Alleghany will go undefeated all year or even in conference but they picked up a good win tonight in a good hard fought game. I hate the author of the post is suggesting poor sportsmanship because I don't feel that was the case and agree with the other posters. Alleghany was the better team tonight. Both teams better get ready for their next game and not worry about this one, no teams are going to bow down to Central or Alleghany. And to finish off on Alleghany's coach, he does fight for his team and can rub you the wrong way but he is a good coach.

One of the great things about being an American is that we are all entitled to an opinion, and I have always thought that an opinion was not right or wrong but just an opinion. With that said, I have to wonder which game Regal Eagle watched tonight. Were the student sections into it on both sides? Sure they were and that is what makes high school basketball great. The fact that the Alleghany student section called players by name means they did their homework. Sorry but that is just part of the game. Alleghany plays old school physical basketball. That is not dirty. That is the way the game is supposed to be played. I have followed Alleghany basketball for years and I don't think I have saw coach Mckinight get a technical in 5 or 6 years. Does he take up for his players? You bet you he does and he will to the end, but he is one of the best basketball coaches in this area and based on the fact that he has beaten your beloved eagles 9 in a row, you might want to see if he is looking for a coaching job. I wont use the word domination, but I will say that it looked a lot like the men against the boys tonight to me. We will let the record represent who is the best team until proven different

I was at the the game and I'm from Wilkes Central. Not sure what game you were watching but we definitely got beat fair and square by an excellent ball team. I saw nothing that would validate the alleghany team having any worse attitudes or sportsmanship than we do on our own team. Let's be truthful here....Both student sections were "egging" one another on which makes it a great atmosphere for a great game. I have watched Alleghany's coach for many years and he complains no more than any other coach in our conference. The officiating was poor tonight and they let it get too rough. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season unfolds. Good luck to both teams.

I was at the game and I'm not a fan from Alleghany or Wilkes Central. I came to see a great ballgame and I got my money's worth. I thought Wilkes Central was more aggressive and got by with some cheap shots. Alleghany showed great sportsmanship when the refs were calling everything against them. McKnight is s great coach. He had every right to get upset tonight with the refs and how unfair they were. These boys were chosen as players of the week from the radio station here in Elkin and they deserved it. Great ballgame and I'm glad I came to watch.

McKnight is good coach!! Congrats to him and his team. However, Alleghany girls coach needs to go back to officiating. He has the talent to win the conference. But wont finsih in top 4.

I don't think your were watching the same game i was. The students from Central were just as mouthy. #35 is definitely a bull in a china shop with a lot more attitude! The refs called more fouls against Alleghany. Your players got by with more elbows being thrown. i guess you have to have some excuses as to why your were beat by an undefeated team.

I got the opportunity to witness Alleghany play against the Eagles tonight, and I have nothing good to say for Alleghany's program. They are very rough, dirty, mouthy, and their coaches egg it on. Number 14 is nothing but a bull in a China shop and pushes and shoves everyone that gets close to him. Their coach is nothing but a big ole bully that complains about every call to the officials. Alleghanys student section is also very vulgar and poor sports by calling out Centrals players by name. The Trojans got the win only because the refs let them play too rough. Still belive that the Eagles have the best team in the conference.
