pdtw knows her biscuits. The other thing besides not working the flour too much is to put the shortening, butter and milk in the freezer for a few minutes so everything is cold.

A fresh fruit salad is good too, to cut the BBQ sauce.

Biscuits take practice. I make mine the way my mom taught me. I put self rising flour in a bowl. Make a well in the middle of the flour & add enough shortening that you can scoop with 4 fingers. Add some sweet milk. ( a lot use buttermilk but I use what I have!) Mix with your fingers, king of squishing the flour & the milk & mixing in the flour as you go. When well mixed, use your hand & put under the mixture & lift back over the top of the dough. Do that several times & it is ready to "pinch" off enough to make your biscuits. Don't knead the dough too much or they will turn out really dense & a little hard.
I've never measured anything when making them, Mama told me just to eyeball it until you know you're right! With a little practice you can do this. I can make a pan of biscuits faster than I can take frozen biscuits out of the freezer & pre-heat the oven! Good luck!!

buy frozen biscuits that you bake at the grocery store. 16 -20 count is about $3.50. personally i think dinner rolls would be better with bbq. corn on the cob and fries go good with ribs some people like slaw or potato salad with them

Your mixing the dough to much, add crisco lard not oil. To go with it. Baked beans, corn on the cob, macaroni salad, green beans, potato salad. Corn bread, also if you still have trouble with biscuits get southern biscuit formula L, beside bisquick in the grocery dept

What goes with BBQ ribs? Also I need to figure out how to make home style biscuts without turning them so thick the only one in the house will be Dixie. Mine suck so bad I swear you could use them as a weapon with knocking someone out. How the heck do you make them fluffy?
